Laser hair removal with the diode laser

Structure & Effect of the hair laser

The name laser is an abbreviation, more precisely an acronym and means completely Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The technique of the diode laser involves the use of bundled light pulses. The laser is called diode laser 808 because of its specific wavelength of 808 nm. Thanks to the focused light, each individual hair root can be treated effectively and precisely. Since the treatment with the diode laser 808 is very gentle, there is a very low risk of burns.

Procedure of the laser hair removal treatment

Nutrients, specifically the protein compounds in the hair follicles, are the basis for hair growth. During laser hair removal with the diode laser, it is possible to selectively heat the hair root cells. The proteins break down – they denature. This deprives the hair of its nutrient base, preventing it from regrowing. The diode laser technique is one of the laser technologies we can offer you in Frankfurt.

How laser hair removal works

Biological basis

In each hair root there is protein, which is responsible for the growth of the hair. During a treatment heat is generated, which leads to denaturation of the protein cell. Denaturation cuts off the nutrient supply to the hair root and ultimately leads to the fact that no further hair can be produced. This principle is used by many laser hair removal methods.

Wavelenght and effect

Due to the specific wavelength of 808 nm, the diode laser is particularly suitable for a skin-friendly treatment of the hair root. The bundled light pulses emitted by the diode laser are converted into heat in the skin. The bundled light optimally reaches the hair root.

Hair processes and hair cycles

What exactly happens with each hair during the laser hair removal?

The light energy increases the temperature in the hair root, which leads to the denaturation of proteins. Thus, the hair follicles can no longer be supplied with the necessary nutrients, fall out and consequently cannot regenerate.

A great benefit of the specific wavelength of 808nm is that the resulting heat only reaches the areas of the skin that are occupied by hair papillae. The other layers of the skin and the surrounding tissue are not affected. It also has no effect on the blood, because hemoglobin, the pigment of the blood, does not react to the wavelength.

Laser hair removal and the growth phases

For a successful treatment, the hair must be in the growth phase, because only at this stage is the hair actively connected to the root. Only in this way the light impulses can reach the hair root and the permanent effect. For this reason, several sessions are necessary to treat each individual hair in its growth phase.

To note with the laser hair removal

Preparation of skin

Before starting the treatment, you should not treat the body area with wax or an epilator as this will remove the important connection to the hair root. However, shaving is not a problem as it leaves the connection intact. At least one month before the treatment you should refrain from methods that remove the hair root.

In addition, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that pigment changes of the skin, such as moles or pigment spots, are not treated as well. As these contain an increased concentration of melanin, they are always covered during treatment.

The same applies to tattoos, because here there is a risk of changes in the color and therefore this also represents a health risk.

Care instructions after laser hair removal

As heat is generated during the treatment, slight reddening of the skin may occur. These should disappear completely within two days. To prevent skin redness and support the healing process, you can care for the skin area with aloe vera or chamomile.

In addition, you should refrain from intensive sunbathing and solarium visits. After treatment, the skin’s natural UV protection is temporarily weakened. To protect your skin, you should use sunscreen for a few days after the treatment.
