Needle Epilation
Electroepilation using electrical current as a complementary method to laser and light-based hair removal

What does needle epilation or electroepilation mean?
Electroepilation or needle epilation – is there a difference?
The terms needle epilation, electroepilation, and electrolysis all describe the same method. A very fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle, where a targeted electrical impulse deactivates the hair root. Unlike light-based procedures, this method works independently of hair pigment.
How does needle epilation work technically?
Treatment is performed hair by hair. A fine probe is guided along the hair shaft down to the hair root, where an electrical impulse is applied. This interrupts hair growth at that specific point. This level of precision makes electroepilation particularly time-consuming and requires a high degree of expertise. The treatment can also be perceived as uncomfortable, especially when larger areas are treated.

When is electroepilation useful?
Suitable for all hair colors
Since needle epilation does not use light, red, white, gray, or very light hairs can also be treated. This is the main difference compared to laser or light-based hair removal methods.
Use on specific body areas
Electroepilation can be used on the face and body, including tattooed areas, as the tattoo is not exposed to light. Typical applications include smaller zones such as the upper lip or isolated remaining hairs.

Difference compared to laser hair removal
Electroepilation is not a replacement for modern laser or light-based technologies, but rather a complementary method. While laser treatments are suitable for efficiently treating larger areas, needle epilation is primarily used for individual hairs or specific situations, such as pigment-free hair.

Important treatment information
Before treatment
For electroepilation, hair should be approximately 2–3 mm long so that the hair follicle can be precisely located. Epilating or waxing should therefore be avoided beforehand.
After treatment
After the session, the skin may be irritated. For around 72 hours, sun exposure, sauna visits, and swimming should be avoided to allow the skin to regenerate.
Electroepilation at Haarfreiheit – location and availability
Needle epilation is currently available in Heidelberg. If you are interested in this method and live in Frankfurt, you are welcome to register your interest without obligation. We will inform you as soon as the needle epilation is available in Frankfurt again or suitable alternatives become available for you.
